Episode 8: John Butler Trio

Hey there valued listener, it's Episode 8!

You asked for it, you got it. Another episode of TYCHWYE. This week we're looking at the funky folk that is... The John Butler Trio, a cool trio led by John Butler, if you didn't get that. Focusing on the album Grand National, Dave starts it off by playing his pick from the album, followed by the first repeat artist we've had ever on Things You Can Hear With Your Ears, Josh Garrels, and finishing it off with the ever-folky Xavier Rudd.

Then we take a break from the music to prank call some people with classic pranks. Do we succeed? Do we fail? Listen to find out!

Then it's Brandon's turn to spin the tunes, beginning again with his John Butler Trio pick, then paying homage to another JBT song with some Andy McKee, and ultimately ending the episode off with some cool 90's music from Dave Matthews. Enjoy!

Episode 7: Colour

With some really cool music and the most awkward banter to date, it's Episode 7 of Things You Can Hear With Your Ears!

This episode features the UK math rock band Colour, who disbanded in 2009 to form other projects. Brandon starts off the show by playing Colour's song Shamu, a song very indicative of Colour's sound. Minus the Bear then gets some air time with a song from their 2004 somewhat-math-rock album, an album that Brandon held near and dear for quite some months. Finally, Brandon ended his set with a band he discovered shortly after succumbing to Colour's amazing sounds, This Town Needs Guns. From their album Animal, where all the songs are named after an animal, the clear choice was to play Baboon.

In this week's middle segment, we played the game "Are You Smarter Than David Shoults," where a contestant had the chance to test their wits in David's unique areas of interest. After leaving a message on an answering machine, Jason stepped up to the plate and took on Dave's infinite wisdom.

David then took the opportunity to play his picks, starting off with his song of choice from Colour, Unicorn. He then played a song by his favourite North American band of all time, Coheed and Cambria, and ends it off with Silhouette Serenade by Vendetta Red. What a solid set.
