Episode 5: M83

Share
It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s episode 5 of Things You Can Hear With Your Ears!

How this was mistaken for both a bird and a plane I’m not sure, but what we have here is another great episode of the podcast you feel obligated to listen to because we’re friends or family (hi mom!). This week we’re featuring the cinematic sounds of M83, the artist behind the ever popular Midnight City. Brandon starts the episode off with his pick off the album Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming, then segues into a beautiful cover of Midnight City by the Vitamin String Quartet. Finally, he finishes his set off with the title track of M83’s movie soundtrack debut (Oblivion, that Tom Cruise movie) featuring Susanne Sundfør.

The middle segment this episode is Stupidioms, where we discuss how silly idioms are. You can’t have your cake and eat it too? What do you want me to do, eat other people’s cake? What’s the point of having cake if you can’t eat it? People do that all the time!

After all that thought-provoking and observational comedy, Dave swoops in and plays some great tunes. He starts off with the ever-unpronounceable Inni Mér Syngur Vitleysingur by Sigur Ros, a great upbeat tune that Last.fm says is very similar to M83. Then Neverending White Lights gets a bit of play time with his track The Living, and Dave rounds off his set with his pick from M83’s album, a great pick to end the episode off on.

Happy Listening!
